Idee tineye logo Image Search via Tineye: Reverse Image Search EngineWhen I first read about this new image search site, tineye, I was quite confused about the idea of reverse image search engine. Since many years all people get used to use keywords on main image search engines powered by search engine providers or stock photo sites. Then I visit this new image search site, tineye, to get an idea.

Tineye is a search engine for images, allowing you to either upload an image or paste its URL, and it will search for other sites using that images. When you submit an image to TinEye, from the results you can find out where it came from, how it is being used, if modified versions of the image exist, or to find higher resolution versions. TinEye is the first image search engine on the web to use image identification technology rather than keywords, metadata or watermarks.

Here is the question: why do we need such image search engine? According to the tinyeye the possible resons might be:

  • Find out where an image came from, or get more information about it
  • Research or track the appearance of an image online
  • Find higher resolution versions of an image
  • Locate web pages that make use of an image you have created
  • Discover modified or edited versions of an image

If you use image search or let me say reverse image serach a lot, free registration to tineye can give you some benefits like:

  • Be the first to try out new features and provide your feedback
  • Get permanent URL links to your searches that can be bookmarked, shared with friends, blogged, etc.
  • Save your search history and easily perform the same searches again
  • Opt in to the TinEye newsletter to get the latest news or special offers
  • Image recognition technology will bring new ideas to life soon i guess ;)
